Know What You Eat: Benefits of Pasture-Raised Meats
Pasture-Raised Ham
At Green Ridge Acres, we raise our own pasture-raised pork and lamb.
Our pigs are raised outside in portable shelters year-round. This way, they always have access to fresh air and sunshine. Pigs that can freely lounge in the sunshine have much more vitamin D in their fat.
The pigs are also able to exercise and root in the dirt to their hearts' content.
Pigs are not ruminants like cows or sheep, meaning they are not meant to digest a diet of only grass. Our pigs are supplemented with a GMO-free corn ration.
We ensure our pigs are handled humanely and are processed locally.

Pasture-Raised Lamb
Our lambs are also raised outside if the weather permits. They are fed mostly hay, grass, and mineral packages. Over winter, they are supplemented with GMO-free oats.
This combination makes for very lean, flavorful, tender meat with more omega-3 fatty acids and CLA content, as nature intended. To top it off, grass-fed lamb has a low essential fatty acid (EFA) of one to one versus one to eight in grain-fed lamb.
Our lamb is handled humanely and processed locally.
To sum it up, pasture-raised lamb is a winning package. Order some for your Easter dinner!
